Get Out Of My Head: Part 3

Promises; are very important.  They tell the character of a person.  If you cannot keep your promises, then how can you possibly be trusted?  If you do not keep your promises, how does one know that you are not just some liar?  Cheat?  Scoundrel?  Promises indeed are very important, especially in the mind of Angelica Jones.  Promises, trustworthiness, and honesty are all things that The Matriarch of the Jones Wrestling Family value, possibly more so than any other principle you can name.  If you lie to her one time, if you fail to keep your word with her even one time, she has a difficult time trusting you ever again.

Angelica knows that she is no saint herself.  She hasn’t been the most honest and trustworthy of people herself during her lifetime.  Perhaps this is why she does indeed have a difficult time trusting people after they have betrayed her?  She has done so herself before and knows the pain it inflicts upon others.

Jones has made promises and she intends to keep them.  She promised to have her cousin Glory Braddock’s back as she heads into Rise To Greatness against Syren and Alistaire Allocco for the SCW World Championship.  If that means knocking Casterillo’s block off so he won’t continue running his mouth and harassing her on SCW television then so be it.  If that’s what she must do to keep her promise then she will do so.

Angelica Jones promised Aphrodite Noel that she would make up for the time that they have missed being with one another.  They are supposed to be a couple, they are supposed to be together, yet their busy schedules as professional athletes have kept them running anywhere and everywhere except in each other’s company.  Angelica is determined to keep this promise to Aphrodite and make up for that.

Sometimes you cannot keep a promise.  Angelica realizes this and realizes that she is about to break one such promise as she leads her girlfriend Aphrodite Noel up the sidewalk to the front door of her “mother”...Samantha Hodgson?

No, Samantha Hodgson is not Angelica’s mother.  Her mother, Kelly Jones is quite dead.  But after undergoing very strong hypnotic therapy from Hodgson now believes that her mother is alive and well and that Samantha IS Kelly Jones.  Aphrodite knows better but is playing along for Angelica’s sake, and hoping to get some answers to the riddle.  A riddle that even she doesn’t quite know all the answers to.

Angelica promised “her mother” that she wouldn’t bring anyone here to her home, a very new and modern look establishment in Boston, Massachusetts.  Obviously Angelica is about to break that promise.  But logically speaking, Aphrodite would have to meet Angelica’s mother one day if their relationship continues…

...right?

“Here we are!” Angelica and Aphrodite approach the front door.

The house was new. Very new. It looked like it had been finished last week. It looked almost too new in some strange way. It was as if it had rolled off a production line, but they had forgotten to apply the mandatory layer of color to it. The windows were huge and seemingly inspired by something truly alien. Anyone could see into the house from an uncomfortable distance. From here, she could see surfaces of white, glossy plastic that iced over the kitchen, granite enforced the walls in their straight, uninspired monotony. There wasn't a single square meter of organic material in sight. Not even a comforting wallpaper that imitated warmth in some way. Not even a plank of wood. The house, it seems, was a livable, modern mausoleum.

“I hope mom’s home.” Angelica says, smiling warmly at Aphrodite. “I didn’t call ahead because I wanted this to be a surprise for her.”

"Don't worry about it, Angel. Your mother..." Aphrodite managed to get the word mother out successfully, not without feeling disgusted that she has to entertain this facade. "...will be delighted to finally meet me."

“I hope so.” Angelica sighs and places her hand on the doorknob and opens the door. “I mean, she’s been acting strange lately.  Between us, she didn’t even want me telling anyone about this place, about where she’s staying.  I’m worried about her.”

"All mothers believe they know best, part of the job." Aphrodite smiles. "Now lets surprise your mother. Can't wait to see the woman who gave birth to one of the best women I know."

“Awww, I love you too.” Angelica gives Aphrodite a brief kiss on the lips before walking into the home.  Aphrodite follows closely behind.  Once inside Angelica calls out…

“Mom?  Are you home?”

There is a pause and silence.  “Mom?”  Second time is the charm and Angelica hears movement in the living room.  She motions for Aphrodite to follow her and the two walk a few feet down the hall and then enter the living room area.  There they spot Samantha Hodgson just now getting up off of the sofa.

“Surprise, mom!” Angelica exclaims as she approaches Samantha and embraces her in a tight hug.  After the embrace she motions to Aphrodite. “Mom, this is Aphrodite…”

Angelica is cut off rather quickly by Samantha’s harsh voice.  She is not pleased; not pleased at all.  As it turns out, Hodgson does NOT like surprises.  She shakes her head vehemently.

“Angelica!  I told you not to bring anyone here!  Who is…” Hodgson’s face goes pale “...did you say Aphrodite?”

“Yes, Aphrodite Noel.  My girlfriend.” Angelica tells her.

“Not her…” Samantha shakes her head, muttering under her breath.  She wanted to stay out of the limelight, she wanted to stay hidden and away from everyone just in case she was spotted by someone who remembered her.  Aphrodite Noel would definitely remember Samantha Hodgson as one who decried their relationship from the start.  Hodgson, when she was still managing Angelica’s career, did not feel Angelica openly dating Aphrodite would be good for her public image and tried to convince her to break up with Noel.  It was the last straw that ended Hodgson’s working relationship with Angelica Jones.

This is the last thing Samantha wanted.

Aphrodite scowls, "What did you do to Angelica... Sam!"

“She’s my daughter!” Samantha exclaims.

“Sam?” Angelica looks puzzled. “Who is Sam?”

“Do not listen to her!” Hodgson pleads with Angelica, hoping her hypnotic suggestion is still holding strong.

"Angel, that woman is Samantha Hodgson. She has been obsessed with you for years. I don't know what she did to convince you that she is your mother. This game stops today." Aphrodite glares at Sam. "Its over. It will be a matter of time before I bring the wrath of the entire Jones family on you. We can end this facade today, or this will get a lot worse. Your call."

“Samantha Hodgson?” Angelica’s face contorts into even more confusion. “Why is that name so familiar?”

“You’re doing it again!” Hodgson pulls at her hair angrily and gets up into Noel’s face. “You tore me away from my beloved Angelica once before!  Now you’re doing it again!”

"If you don't back up bitch, your going to wake up in the hospital!!" Aphrodite balls up her fist. "I'm going to count to 3. 1... 2..."

While this is going on, Angelica has been thinking and racking her brain, trying to remember why the name Samantha Hodgson is familiar to her.  “Samantha...Hodgson…” Angelica’s eyes suddenly light up as memories flood back to her.  She scowls over at Aphrodite and Hodgson right before the count of three from Aphrodite.

“I remember…” Angelica says with a low growl.

“You remember?” Samantha approaches Angelica cautiously. “What do you remember, my child?”

“I am not your child!” Angelica grabs Hodgson by the throat, lifts her up and slams her into the nearby coffee table.  Jones mounts her and starts pouring right hands down upon Hodgson.

“And you are NOT my mother!  You are not even a human being!” Venom spews from Angelica’s voice as she starts to choke Samantha. “No human being would do what you’ve done and believe me, I work with some pretty damn despicable pieces of shit!”

“I only…tried...to help…” Samantha barely gets the words out, as she is being choked.

“LIAR!” Angelica jerks her up and throws her against a wall. “You used your hypnotherapy and manipulated my feelings!”

“You wanted to get rid of The Dragon.” Hodgson coughs up some blood.  “You wanted to get rid of The Darkness inside of you.  I discovered that your darkness, rage, and that so-called Dragon has its origins with your mother’s death.  You created the dragon to protect yourself from the death of your mother, a death you still haven’t gotten over.  Giving you your mother back was the only way to get rid of The Dragon.  And in the process it gave me what I wanted, what I always wanted…”

She runs a hand through Angelica’s red hair “...you…”

Angelica lets out a fierce, shrill yell as she throws Samantha down to the floor.  Jones drops to her knees and starts to cry. Aphrodite drops down on the floor next to her. She looks at Samantha first.

"Even if your psychobabble is true Sam, under no circumstances is it right screw with someones mind. I learned that lesson long ago. You never gave Angelica a choice, she never consented to you masquerading as her dead mother!" Aphrodite hugs Angelica. "As much as I would love for you to kick Sams ass some more, you can't. You've done enough. Leaving her here broken will hopefully drive home the message she lost. Tell me what you want to do. I'll support you, no matter what."

Angelica looks at Aphrodite with eyes that still have tears flowing out but now also with a devilish rage and anger. “Get me the hell out of here before I commit murder.”

Aphrodite nods and walks Angelica by her arm out of the living room back down the hall and back out of the door.  They two are now standing back on the doorstep they were standing on earlier.  Angelica sighs, shaking her head in disappointment.

“I was weak…” her voice trails off.

"Don't." Aphrodite rested her hand on Angelica's shoulder.  "I hate to agree with anything she said, you haven't properly dealt with your mother being murdered in front of you. Who can? I don't think I'd be able to recover from that. I don't blame you for being vulnerable to her manipulations. I once played on Chasity's desire to feel like she was number one. We all have our weak spots. The key now Angel is to properly deal with the past. If you do that, The Dragon might become a distant memory, who knows. What you need to decide, do you want to get rid of The Dragon?"

“I have to deal with it.” Angelica sighs. “I never did deal with my issues and that’s how she got to me.  My mother is dead and my father is missing, probably dead himself.  That left me as the head of the family, the matriarch, and while I always put on a strong front, like I could handle that responsibility, I have always felt like I’ve failed.  What kind of matriarch lets her younger sister get put into the situation she was put in growing up?  My children, I’ve failed them before.  Samantha is right, The Dragon has always been there to help me cope with it all, to help me cope with being the head of the family.”

Jones wipes some tears from her eyes. “And maybe that’s the answer?  The Dragon isn’t my protection, it’s my strength; the strength I need to cope with being the matriarch of this family.  And instead of trying to get rid of it, maybe it’s time I embraced it.”

Aphrodite smiles. "I agree, one thousand percent."

“So let me get this straight, she had you convinced that she was mom?  OUR mother?” This is the voice of Kayla Jones-Snow, younger sister of Angelica Jones.  The eldest of the siblings sits on a plush, comfortable cream colored sofa in the living room of the Jones family homestead, currently owned by Angelica herself, listening to her sister who is in the kitchen, retrieving some drinks.  Angelica, can even hear a little snicker from her sister.  But that’s ok, let her mock it.  It’s over now.  Jones has had time to sleep on it since the incident and she is certain that she knows what she must do next.  Still, she wants to speak with her sister.  It seems appropriate.

The younger Jones enters the living room with two glasses of red wine.  She hands one of the glasses to Angelica and keeps one for herself before sitting down on the sofa next to her.  Kayla cannot help but chuckle just a little.  Angelica, however, doesn’t find any of this funny.

“What’s so funny?” Angelica asks, arching a brow.

“Oh nothing!” Kayla remarks with a wry grin. “I’m just kind of wondering, what were you drinking?  I mean, you had to be drunk.  Right?!”

“Alcohol had nothing to do with it, sis.”

“Drugs?” Kayla asks, pushing her sister’s frustration even farther.

“No!” Angelica exclaims. “It was hypnotherapy.”

“Hypnotherapy?” Kayla furrows her brow, growing legitimately curious now. “You mean that psychobabble bullshit?”

“Funny you say that,” Angelica says with a chuckle of her own “that’s what Aphrodite called it.  Psychobabble.”

“Well that’s what it is.” Kayla retorts, rolling her eyes. “I’m surprised she got to you like that.”

“I’m not.” Angelica sighs deeply as she takes a sip of her wine. “She knew exactly what she was doing.  I was vulnerable, I was weak, and I needed help.  And she pretended to be there for me.”

“That’s another thing that irks me,” Kayla scowls “why didn’t you come to me, you big idiot?”

“I know, I should have.  You, Aphrodite, Glory, anyone else would have been fine.  But I was desperate to rid myself of The Dragon.  Samantha claimed she could get rid of it.  And she did…” her voice trails off.

“But she did it by making you think our mother was alive.  The bitch,” Kayla sips her wine “I have half a mind to track her down and kick her teeth down her damn throat.”

“No, don’t.” Angelica shakes her head. “Just leave her alone.  She can’t hurt me anymore.”

“Well what are you going to do about this now?” Kayla asks curiously. “You still haven’t dealt with The Dragon and more importantly you need to deal with the death of our mother.  That’s how she got to you in the first place.”

“I know…” Angelica’s voice trails off as tears form in her eyes.  Kayla reaches out and embraces her older sister in a tight, sisterly hug.

“It’s ok, sweetie.  Let it all out.”

“I just miss her so much, Kay!”

“I know.” Kayla remarks with a nod of her head. “I do too.  But sis,”

They break the embrace and Kayla continues “you have to eventually deal with this.  The trauma of what you lived through literally drove you to the point of insanity.  And now this…” Kayla sighs and shakes her head “...none of this is healthy.”

“No, it isn’t.  But I do know what I must do.  I have to pay mom a visit.”

The sun shines brightly overhead in a cemetery out behind Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church. The boughs of the cemetery twist like contorted bones, writhing in a silent scream. Beneath them lie the cold stones, each marking a dwelling place in which no-one is home.   The cemetery is cool and there is dew on the grass.  The air is fresh and, unlike the unloved graves further away, here they are covered in bright blooms; their families, their loved ones who still live, have visited.  A place like this should be spooky and fill one with chills while walking amongst the bones and remains of the dead. Yet in this mid-morning light under a cloudless sky, the air fragrant with pine-needles, it feels more like the park on a Sunday afternoon.  And for Angelica Jones, this place is far from being creepy.  She has been here many times.  This is quite familiar territory for her.  The ground has a softness that will be gone in just a few weeks more, frozen as hard as the stones it supports. Here, amid the long departed, there is time to contemplate without being disturbed.  It’s a good place to get away from the noise and craziness of life.  And for Angelica, this is where she can be alone with the individual she misses the most.

“Hi mom…” Angelica’s voice trails off as she approaches a singular gravestone.  In black lettering across its grayish white exterior it reads “Ford”, the maiden name of Kelly Jones, Angelica’s beloved mother.

The gravestone was as white as the crystalline snow. Under the rays of the brilliant sun it seemed to have an aura of its own. The redheaded Boston native reached out, at first with loving fingers to touch the marble and run her fingers over the black engraved lettering. Her bare fingers blanched in the wind but she didn't care. Somehow the feel of the stone on her skin brought her some peace. It was beautiful, polished and smooth. It was the most expensive option in the catalogue and she had chosen it without hesitation. Her late mother was worth it.

“I hope you like it.” Angelica says, grinning warmly with a tear forming in her eyes. “I just thought your family deserved it’s own special space. It’s still near the Jones family space but your family left everything you knew, everyone you loved, to escape Soviet Russia. You can’t go back there but this place is yours.”

Jones pauses to wipe the tears from her eyes. “And I needed this too…” her voice trails off as she struggles to find the right words “...because I miss you mom.  I miss you terribly.  It’s been like a cancer eating away at me all of my adult life.”

“I attempted suicide because I couldn’t deal with it. I committed murder and was subsequently thrown into a mental institution because I couldn’t deal with it. And I damn near lost myself, my family, and everyone I care about to an obsessive monster all because I couldn’t deal with it.”

Angelica takes in a deep breath and sighs, letting it out. “It’s high time that I deal with this. You’re gone, mom. You’re gone and you’re never coming back. The manner in which you were taken from me was bad enough. No thirteen year old should have to witness her mother get raped and murdered. But it only got worse when dad left me and Kayla. That left me as the oldest, that left me feeling the weight of the responsibility of taking care of the family.”

She shakes her head. “A thirteen year old shouldn’t have those kinds of responsibilities but you couldn’t tell me that. I was convinced that it was my responsibility and the weight and pressure of that responsibility scared the hell out of me.”

“I thought I was running away from The Dragon but in reality I had been trying to run away from my responsibility as Matriarch of this family.” Angelica’s eyes narrow as she stares forward with intensity.

“No more. You’re gone for good. Dad is never coming back, I’ve accepted this. I’m done running away from who I am and from my responsibility.”

Jones leans more and kisses the headstone. “I love you, mom.”

The camera begins to roll and we open out in front of a grassy field.  The sun is shining bright overhead and the field and hills seem to go on forever.  As this scene opens we also find ourselves in the midst of “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen.

Let it go, let it go
Can't hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door

A few moments later Angelica Jones steps into the scene from stage left.  The Dragon is wearing denim jeans, black boots, and a black “SCW” t-shirt.  Her long red hair hangs unrestrained to shoulder length.  She is also wearing her signature black leather jacket and sunglasses cover her eyes.

“Ok, you can stop the music!” The redheaded Boston native remarks.  Immediately the famous song stops playing.  A low chuckle escapes Angelica’s throat. “You may think I was facing someone else considering the song choice.”

Jones shakes her head. “But no, this song is all about one Casterillo.  You cannot and will not let go of any petty grudges, will you?  You have to have the last laugh because you are one egomaniacal little bitch.  But now your ego, and your refusal to just simply let go of these grudges, is about to come back and bite you on the ass.  And spoiler alert, it is all your fault because you refused to let go and you had to have everything be all about you.”

“And that’s what you really wanted from the very start, am I right Casterillo?  Everything absolutely must be about you.  The spotlight has to be on you.  And if even the smallest, tinniest of details does not go your way, you throw a childish temper tantrum.  I mean, sure, you talk tough, but when someone stands up to you and calls you out for your bullshit, you tuck tail like the bully you are and run away.”

“That’s ultimately what happened when my cousin, Glory Braddock, fought you.  You were well on your way to being beaten and humiliated, humbled in front of the entire world by The British Bombshell, and what did you do?  You turned and ran away.  Oh but that’s not how you’re supposed to act, is it?  That’s not what was supposed to happen?  When the going gets tough, you leave.”

The Dragon points a long slender finger at the camera, as if pointing directly at Casterillo. “But then you had to come back.”

“And why did you come back you big dumb bastard?  You came back because you wanted revenge against my cousin for running your cowardly ass out of SCW.  No one told you to run, especially not my cousin.  She would have gladly taken you on then but you chose to whine, you chose to run your mouth about her and demean and belittle her reputation as a warrior, as a fighter, because ‘surely no one can beat Casterillo’...” Jones shakes her head.

“...she had moved on, Casterillo.  Heading into Taking Hold of the Flame her mind was made up and her sights were set upon dethroning Syren and becoming SCW World Champion.  And you were the last person on her mind.  But you suddenly found your courage and then decided to come back to SCW because you think you have unfinished business with her?  You want to finish this dance with Glory Braddock?”

Angelica sneers. “You’re not just a stupid son of a bitch but you are quite delusional as well.  If you came here looking for a fight with Glory Braddock then let me just save you the time and save the people the time of having to listen to your damn mouth constantly bringing her up and just tell you right now that you are not getting another match against Glory Braddock.”

“My cousin has moved on and she is focusing on bigger, more important things.  So you thinking you could get her in the ring was your first mistake.  Your second mistake was targeting a member of my family.  I am fiercely loyal to every single one of my family members.  Family is important to me above anything and everything else.  The moment you declared war on my cousin, you declared war on each and every one of us…” Jones sneers nastily “...and that includes me!”

“So this isn’t about just distracting you or keeping you away from Glory.  By all means, she can take care of herself.  This is me defending the honor of my family and if that means knocking you back down to reality then so be it!  You walk around, taking up valuable airtime so you can preach your delusional bullshit about how you’re going to fight my cousin.” She shakes her head. “NOT...gonna...happen!”

A smirk forms across her face. “But my dance card was free and if you want to fight someone, if you’re all pissed off because someone outed you for the coward that you are, then take out that anger on me.  It has been a long ass time since I’ve unleashed my inner Dragon and believe me, Casterillo, I am very much looking forward to introducing you to The Dragon.”

You see, The Dragon is my monster.  It is my darkness.  And I’ve been running from it for far too long.  In a way that makes us alike, doesn’t it?  Any time the pressure gets too much for you, you run.  But at Rise To Greatness I will fully embrace who I am.  I will welcome The Dragon and embrace it to its fullest most violent extent.  And where that takes me?” She shrugs her shoulders. “Who knows?  What I can tell you is that you will get the very worst of me.  And that is not a good thing for you.”

“You want to finish this, you son of a bitch?  Finish it with me, not Glory.  I’m right here waiting and ready to rip you limb from limb.  I’m ready to maim you.  So lets go ahead and finish this story, Casterillo.  For the sake of everyone in the locker room who can’t stand your very presence, let’s end this and you can then be on your merry way to annoy the piss out of someone else.  Then maybe, just maybe, you can accept it, whatever the outcome may be, and just move on.”

Angelica smirks. “The real question is, will I let you leave under your own power?”

Get Out Of My Head: Part 2

The Spectrum Center here in Charlotte, NC is still busy backstage as Supreme Championship Wrestling’s post Taking Hold of the Flame Breakdown is still under way and everyone is still buzzing with anticipation about what may come next.  Anxiousness and excitement will be filling the hearts of all of the athletes on the SCW roster for they realize that they are now on the road towards Rise To Greatness.

You may think that excitement and relief should be felt by none other than Angelica Jones.  At Taking Hold of the Flame she went in unsure of whether James Evans would be there to help her defend the SCW World Tag Team Championship against The Truelove Twins.  Not only was he there, but the pair known as Redemption defeated London and Paris to continue their dominant tag team championship reign.

Yes, a victory such as that should bring about some amount of relief.  Relief, however, is the farthest thing from Angelica’s mind at this point.  The redheaded Boston native just concluded a massive argument with her own tag team partner and friend James Evans.  Well, it was massive for her; it ended with Evans telling her to stay out of his way.

A confrontation like this one only raises more questions and doubts into her mind.  These were questions she had hoped were settled at Taking Hold of the Flame.  She had thought that James Evans arrival and subsequent victory alongside Jones over the Twins had proven that he was fine.  He was ok.

He was better.

Yet it seems as if he is far from being ok.  Angelica is still concerned about his mental state and well being.  The irony of this is that he and Angelica came together to form Redemption because of their shared past of fighting their own inner demons.  If James is once again back sliding then that could prove to be deadly for the future of Redemption.

If only he could have the same kind of assistance Angelica had; but then again, no one can a mother like Angelica’s beloved mother.  She helped Angelica get rid of The Dragon once and for all.  Her own inner darkness has been dealt with.  No problems for Angelica.

None at all.

“Hey, Angelica…”

The familiar voice startles Angelica only slightly.  She jumps a little and turns around to find the source of the voice.  Standing there dressed in a pink skirt that falls just below the knee, pink high heel pumps, and a royal purple button up blouse is none other than her cousin, The British Bombshell and the woman many claim to be “The Best in the World”, Glory Braddock.

“...you ok, mate?  You appeared to be a little out of it.”

“Huh?  Oh, yeah.” Angelica sighs as she nods her head.

“That doesn’t sound very convincing.” The blonde beauty motions for Jones to follow her. “Come on, catering is just around the corner.  Let’s get something to drink and talk about it, right?”

Angelica isn’t confident about sharing these issues with other people.  But the again, Glory Braddock is family.  Glory’s mother and Angelica’s beloved mother are sisters, making the two of them cousins.  Besides, it’s not as if the world doesn’t already know about James Evans and his recent string of violent episodes.  He nearly broke Giovanni Aries’s nose on live television.

Not that the leader of the Wonderland didn’t deserve it…

“Sure, let’s go.” Angelica nods her head before joining Glory Braddock as they walk down the hall.

“I couldn’t help but see you trying to stop James back there.” Glory muses, reminding her of what just happened a few moments ago, before the big argument that has Angelica shake right now. “Is that what this is about?”

“You read me like a book, Glory.” Angelica says with a sigh.

They round a corner and, sure enough, there it is; the catering area.  Glory walks over and takes a bottle of water.  Angelica feels she needs something strong; real strong.  She takes a cup and fills it full of coffee.  Jones always has and always will take her coffee black.  So with no ‘doctoring’ of the popular liquid, Angelica takes a sip.

“Ah, that’s better…” she remarks, referring to her coffee.

“I knew coffee would lift your spirits.” Braddock shrugs her shoulders. “Hell, at least make you more talkative.”

“It did that much.” Jones answers back with a nod of her head.

“So what about James?”

“He and I used to be close, real close.  Both of us have had a past of violence and darkness but we managed to overcome it.  We were supposed to be there for one another, to make sure we didn’t backslide into our old ways.” Jones sighs as her voice trails off. She thinks about recent events before continuing. “Lately, though, it seems as if he’s been backsliding and no matter how hard I try to be there for him, he just seems so volatile.”

“In fairness, aren’t you both backsliding a little?” Glory asks.

“What do you mean?”

“The Dragon…”

“Oh that.” Angelica scoffs. “I’ve taken care of that.”

Braddock stares at her cousin with a harsh skepticism on her face. “Really?  Is that so?  I mean, I find that a little hard to believe, considering how panicked you were about it.”

“Trust me, Glory.  It’s been taken care of.”

Angelica wants to be wholly honest and transparent with her cousin.  And she doesn’t think there’d be any problem telling Glory about how Angelica’s mother helped her get this Dragon mentality out of her system.  Yet, her mother insisted that she tell no one.  In fact, she insisted on damn near complete secrecy.  Angelica finds it odd but she doesn’t want to go against her mother’s wishes.

“You know I don’t believe you.”

Angelica pauses for a moment to consider her cousin’s words before chuckling lightly and nodding her head.

“Yes, I figured as much.”

“Right.  Well, in any event, I’ll be here to help you when you can admit that to yourself that you still may need help.  In the meantime, as far as James goes, maybe you should give him some space.  You know?”

“That’s kind of what he said.” Angelica says, looking away from Glory.

“He got himself into this mess by associating with the Wonderland crazies.  The Wonderland may even be responsible for bringing The Dragon back; who knows?  I do believe they are mostly at fault here.  Their fingerprints are all over this crap.”

“But we’re supposed to watch each other’s back and be there for one another.” Angelica insists. “And I feel totally helpless and unable to do anything about it.”

“He needs to realize that the more space he creates between himself and The Wonderland the better off he is.  You know?  But I fear the more you try to beat that into his skull the more resistant he will be to it.”

“In other words, stay out of his way?” Angelica suggests.

“What I’m saying is be a friend, be there for him, but don’t pressure him.  James has to make his own decisions and live with those consequences.”

“I know and I understand that but I want to help him.  You know?”

“I do know,” Glory remarks, nodding her head “but there are others who need your attention.”

Angelica stares deep into her cousin’s eyes, letting those words sink in.  Then it hits her like a lightning bolt.  She knows exactly what she’s talking about.

Or maybe who...

The warmth of the fireplace feels good across the body of Angelica Jones on this cold Massachusetts day.  It’s late in the evening, a few days removed from the incident between her and her tag team partner James Evans at Breakdown and she has had plenty of time to reflect upon the incident.

Despite her cousin Glory’s admonshing her to just simply lay off and leave him alone, Angelica still is convinced that she needs to do something for her best friend and tag team partner.  They have always been there for each other during the dark times, they always helped each other find their way back to the light.  Besides, Angelica never abandons her friends or her family.  And she won’t abandon James when he needs her, even if he doesn’t want her help.

Still, Glory did bring up a good point.  There are others who need Angelica, her attention specifically.  Namely, Aphrodite Noel.  Angelica admits that she hasn’t been as attentive to their relationship as she should have been.  Being an active professional wrestler can make one quite busy but still, that’s not an excuse.  Aphrodite is someone she knows she can trust.  Someone she knows she should be able to go to with her problems.

This is what brings Aphrodite to Angelica’s home on this day, sitting down next to her on the sofa.  Both have glasses of red wine in their hands.    The bottle, already nearly completely gone, is sitting on the coffee table in front of them.

“Thanks for coming,” Angelica remarks quietly as she takes a sip “I needed the company tonight.”

“There is nowhere else I’d rather be. These moments are few and far between.” Aphrodite says before sipping her some of her wine.

“Yeah, I know.” She sighs deeply. “That’s my fault.  I apologize for that, by the way.  I’ve been very distracted lately.  I could blame GCW, I could blame SCW, but ultimately it lies on my shoulders and my inability to handle certain problems in my life and career right now.”

Aphrodite shakes her head. “It takes two. I have the easier schedule between us, I just as easily could accompany you to Breakdowns every once in awhile. Being Tapout Champion has been consuming, I don’t want to give up the crown anytime soon. But I’m here now. What’s on your mind?”

“First, before I say anything else, I want to let you know that I am going to do everything I can within my power to be the partner you deserve.  As I said, I’ve ignored this relationship, I’ve ignored us, enough.  No more.” Angelica leans in and kisses her on the lips.

For Aphrodite the kiss feels like an eternity. Having soaked in every moment, she pulls away. A smile rest on her face. “I’m glad to hear that. Before we move forward, there’s something you need to know. You’re not the only one who has neglected us, I have too. My offense is worse, you should know..”

Aphrodite takes a deep breath. “Rest assured, I haven’t cheated on you, I would never do that. At least physically. More emotional. I feel bad, you deserve all of me, not part. I’ve been feeling vulnerable as of late. Spending more time with Brittany Kayl forced feelings I have always had for her to rise back to the surface.”

Lowering her head in shame, Aphrodite continues, “This is eating me up. You deserve better than someone whose heart is divided. I was tempted not to say anything. I wanted to deal with this on my own. I am afraid telling you all this will hurt. And you have enough to deal, we finally have a quiet moment to ourselves, this isn’t the conversation we should be having.”

Summoning the courage to look Angelica in the eye again, Aphrodite continues,  “I don’t blame you if you question who my heart belongs to. A relationship does require work, just like you, I want to make us stronger. Here with you is where I want to be. Hope you can forgive me.”

“I don’t question you, Aphrodite.  I trust you wholly.  That’s part of why I’m able to tell you about my own specific problem tonight.  So have no worries, you have done no wrong but if it helps; yes, I forgive you.”

Breathing a sigh of relief, Aphrodite says, “Thank you. So, what is it you want to tell me?”

“It’s about James.” Angelica remarks, assuming Aphrodite will know she means James Evans, her tag team partner in SCW. “Part of what made us Redemption is that we promised to watch each other’s back, not just in the ring but if we ever felt the other was slipping back into that dark place.”

Jones sighs. “More and more I see James slipping.  He damn near broke Gio’s nose.  Was gonna strike him again until I stopped him.  And we just had a big fight where he told me to basically stay out of his way.”

She shakes her head. “I just don’t know what to do.  I want to help but then again, maybe I should just stay out of it?”

Aphrodite wasn’t completely foreign to the recent questionable behavior of James Evans, from watching SCW TV she knows full well how James has not been the same man who earned a second chance in the promotion that once exiled him. Aphrodite has had her own feelings about James, she has enough faith in Angelica to handle it, despite her reservations. Knowing what she wants to say now, Aphrodite takes another sip of wine. “It is admirable you want to be there for James. He needs all the support he can get. The last thing he needs in his condition is to feel isolated. But, you are not his keeper. Somethings are above our pay grade. I get it, you can relate, apart of you sees yourself in him. James Evans needs professional help. Only a doctor is qualified to deal with what he is going through. Don’t cut him out your life. I don’t know if there is much more you can do. From what I’ve seen on TV, this isn’t you channeling a Dragon, his issues run much deeper. He wasn’t allowed back in SCW for awhile for a reason. As much chaos as you caused at your worst, I don’t recall you being exiled from returning back to work.”

Angelica nods her head.  This sounds very much like the same advice she received from Glory Braddock backstage at Breakdown.  Should she take the hint, now that she’s heard it from two different people?  She’s beginning to think so.

“Maybe you’re right.  I just hate to see him like that, you know what I mean?  We both worked hard to turn back from the darkness.  Now to see him slipping back to it makes me sad for him.” She chuckles and shakes her head. “I wonder what my mom will think of all this?”

Angelica continues to laugh, not even noticing her lapse.  Not noticing that she mentioned her mother.  It’s still strange to her that she wouldn’t want to be mentioned but Angelica agreed not to mention her.  Oh well, it’s too late.

Aphrodite raises her eyebrow. “I’m confused, why did you reference your mother in the present tense?”

“Shouldn’t I have?” Angelica answers, equally confused.

Aphrodite narrows her eyes. “No. Your mother is no longer with us.”

“Um, if you mean right now then no, she isn’t.”

Aphrodite tried being tactful. Now was the time to be more direct. “Babe, your mother is dead, you were there, you watched her die. Look, if you’re seeing ghost, that’s ok. I believe in ghost, too. Tell me you understand your mom isn't physically here.”

Angelica realizes she made a mistake, a slip of the tongue.  “Look, let’s just forget I said anything about my mom.  She wants to be left alone anyway.  Not sure why.”

Aphrodite shakes her head. “No Angel, I am not going to drop this. We are in this together, tell me what’s going on.”

Jones frowns. “You seriously believe my mother is dead?  Seriously?” She chuckles lightly. “She’s not.  Granted she’s been acting strange.  I find it odd that she wants to be left alone.  But she is most definitely alive.”

Angelica snaps her fingers. “Oh that’s it!  You haven’t met her.  You’re just saying this because I never introduced you, is that it?”

Aphrodite closes her eyes, perplexed by what she’s hearing. A little more level headed, she opens her eyes. With a smile on her face she says, “Guilty. You figured me out. So, how about I meet your mother right now? Only fair your mother meets the love of her daughter's life.”

“I agree!” Angelica exclaims, then sighs. “Just not right now, we’ll have to wait.  We can arrange something in the next couple of weeks or so, something that works with both our schedules and, of course, mom’s.  Gotta make sure her schedule is clear, since she’s been busy doing God knows what.”

Aphrodite sighs. “Fine..” Every fiber of her being wanted to push the issue further. Something was clearly off. No answers were going to come right now. No point belabouring what couldn’t be solved, instead, she decided to focus on the one thing she could control. She leaned in, she kisses her girlfriend passionately, Aphrodite didn’t want to allow this one thing to cast an big shadow of them spending time with each other. Angelica’s “mother” can wait. Answers would come. For now, she wanted all of Angelica. That was good enough for Aphrodite.

Being with her cousin Glory or any of her family is great.  Being with her girlfriend Aphrodite Noel is even better.  But if there is one person she may like being with even more and spending time with even more is her beloved mother.

Angelica and her mother, Kelly, have always been close.  They have always been there for one another.  Angelica isn’t sure what she would do if she ever lost her.  But luckily she never has had to deal with that kind of traumatic loss.  It’s funny, you may expect this to just be an ordinary feeling for Angelica and yet recently her times with Kelly have felt more joyous than usual.  It feels almost as if she rediscovered her after a long time of being lost.

That’s ridiculous though.  She was never lost.

Now she finds herself with her mother yet again in one of those special moments they share together.  Currently Angelica stands with her on the front doorstep of what she is being told is a new home for the two of them.

“You will absolutely love it, my daughter.” Samantha Hodgson, the fraud, remarks.

“I’m sure I will.” Angelica remarks, not completely sure of that statement, to be perfectly frank.  From what she can tell already from the outside looking in, it’s not very cozy.

Samantha steps in through the front door first, Angelica follows her closely behind.  Jones is blissfully unaware that she’s being led astray by this woman claiming to be her mother.  A woman who put that thought in her head through the influence of hypnosis.  She follows Hodgson into what appears to be a living area.  It, too, looks very modern with very little of the old traditional taste that Angelica loves.  The taste that she thought her mother loved as well.

Then again, people’s taste can change.

“See?  Isn’t this gorgeous!” Samantha gushes as she approaches a nearby couch.  The couch is rather plain, white in color, and doesn’t look very comfortable.  Hodgson motions for Angelica to sit next to her and Angelica does so.

“What do you think?” Hodgson asks.

“It’s, um…” Angelica pauses to consider her words, finally she forces a somewhat fake smile “...it’s nice!”

“You hate it.” Samantha says with a somewhat disappointed sigh.

“I don’t hate it.” Angelica remarks. “It’s just not my style.  You know?”

“Yes, I know.  Though I do hope it won’t keep you from staying here with me.”

“Staying?” Angelica arches her brow out of curiosity.

“Yes, staying.” Samantha nods her head.  “I’ve been quite lonely since your father left and, well, I need someone with me in this big house.  And obviously it can’t be your sister. Kayla has a relationship with that nice man.  What’s his name again?”

“Trenton.” Angelica finds this rather confusing as well.  Shouldn’t her mother know the name of the man her daughter married?

“Right, him.  Kayla is busy with Trenton.  So I need you, darling.”

“Kayla isn’t the only one with a relationship, you know?  I have Aphrodite.”

“Right, her.” Samantha scowls ever so slightly, hoping Angelica didn’t notice.  Years ago, when Samantha was managing Angelica, she tried to convince her to leave Aphrodite.  She didn’t believe that a relationship with her was good public relations.  Angelica chose Aphrodite over Samantha then and never looked back.   Now that Samantha and Angelica are back together, even if it is through nefarious means, Samantha will be looking to change that.

“Something wrong, mom?” Angelica asks curiously.

“Oh nothing, it’s just that I think you can do better than that.  Call me old fashioned and traditional, but shouldn’t you have a nice MAN in your life instead of a nice woman?”

“Traditional?” Angelica chuckles. “Says the woman who bought this incredibly MODERN house?”

“It’s a matter of taste, dear.”

“Taste? Angelica asks, taken aback by Samantha’s statement, “Just because Aphrodite and I love each other doesn’t make it wrong. It’s love.  That’s not a matter of taste.”

Samantha sighs and shakes her head. “You always were more stubborn than your sister.  Look, who really needs you more right now, Aphrodite or that nice young man James?”

“James?  As in James Evans?” Angelica questions, repeating his name in her mind, seeing his face, slowly beginning to wonder if her mother is toying with her. Or if she is serious. And if she is…why?

“Of course!” Samantha states, proudly as she carries a smile, before she continues, “I can tell you two have quite the chemistry, Samantha says, patting Angelica on the shoulder, as if she is reaffirming her statement, “You would have to in order to win those tag team championships and hold onto them as long as you have.”

“That’s in ring chemistry.  And you’re right, James does need me, but…” Angelica replies, trying to be firm in her tone and demeanor, before Samantha scolds her.

“But nothing.” Samantha cuts her off. “Whatever you do with Aphrodite is your own business, even if I do disapprove, Samantha states, flinging her hands in the air, shaking her head. Samantha pauses, as Angelica simply watches, trying to figure things out in her own head. Samantha. Angelica follows Samantha through a corridor and into the kitchen. She watches as Samantha places her hands on the kitchen sink, shaking her head, before nodding as her mother has had a moment of clarity. Samantha turns to Angelica as she says, “But James NEEDS you, my little Angel.”

Angelica sighs and shakes her head. “I don’t know, mom.  It’s just that...” Angelica begins, her mind and her heart telling her that her love for Aphrodite is real. That it is true, even if most of the world looks down upon the love they share. It isn’t something Angelica wants to lose. Ever. Before Angelica can finish, Samantha stands before her.

“Hush.” She cuts her off again. “Don’t answer.  Just think about it,” Samantha says, giving a playful, giving Angelica a hint of comfort, despite the subject of their conversation. Samantha nods before turning and walking out of the kitchen, only to stop in the doorway. She turns to Angelica, as she says,  “And Angel?”

“Yes?” Angelica replies.

“I love you.” Hearing those words, sends a chill down Angelica’s spine for reasons she cannot quite explain, but she believes them to be true. Why would she have any reason to question her mother’s love?

Angelica pauses as she gazes deep into her eyes.  Finally… “I love you too, mom.”

Backstage on Breakdown from Las Vegas, Nevada we find a quiet, very subdued locker room containing the reigning SCW World Tag Team Champions, Angelica Jones and James Evans.  The odd thing about this is the visitor with them…

...Samantha Hodgson.

Samantha knew trying to hypnotize Angelica would be risky but thus far it has worked.  She has her convinced that she is her mother and thus far doing everything she asks of her.  Now she is taking the gamble even further by appearing in a public place with Jones.

Things have changed quite a bit though since Samantha and Angelica split up the first time.  Most, if not all, of those who remember Samantha are gone.  Supreme Championship Wrestling has new, fresh faces.  She is certain no one here will know her identity.  Besides, she doesn’t plan on being seen very often.  Much like James and Angelica have been remaining quite hidden in their locker room, she too has remained hidden.  She remains in obscurity.

Hodgson wants it to stay that way.

“KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!”

Angelica, James, and Samantha exchange looks. “Who could that be?” Jones asks curiously.  James just shrugs his shoulders. Angelica can tell he is frustrated. She tells herself that it seems he’s been that way ever since he returned. Angelica even recalls their argument after James nearly attacked Aries. It is something that has stuck with Angelica ever since. Their exchange has bothered her, but she can’t quite figure out why. Maybe it is because she is truly struggling with it, or it is because of her mother’s words. That James NEEDS her.

The consistent knocking breaks Angelica from her thoughts. She looks at her mother, then at James. The look in his face tells her that the longer this goes on, the more annoyed he will become. Angelica tells herself that if it continues then he could attack them, as he wanted to attack Aries. And then, much to Angelica’s relief, the knocking stops.
All looking at one another, they wait a moment, hoping that whoever this is will just go away.  Unfortunately…

“KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!”

“James! I know you’re here. Security told me you’ve not left.”

“It’s Selena.” Angelica says with a sigh, knowing James doesn’t like the Snow Queen. He had made that abundantly clear during the argument the previous week. She tells herself that if James opens that door, a fight will more than likely break out. A fight where Angelica would have to choose sides, and she knows that she would choose James over Selena. They were a team. They were Redemption. And beyond that, they agreed over a year ago that they would help another, that they would watch one another’s back.

“Seriously?” James asks.  Angelica nods her head.

“Yeah…” her voice trails off.

“I don’t want to talk to her right now!” James starts to get up but Samantha quickly walks over and gently, but firmly, pushes him back down in his chair. For some reason, Angelica doesn’t like the way her mother touches him. She doesn’t think its jealously. Besides, he NEEDS her, not her mother.

“No, please sit.  You need to rest and relax.  Ok?” Samantha says in a calm voice. Her voice is so calm that it even gives Angelica an ounce of comfort. She notices that it eases James as well.

“But…” James says, trying to walk his own path, but he ultimately obliges.

“No, just sit.  Let me and Angelica handle this.” Samantha turns and walks over to Angelica, she motions for the redhead to follow her.  They walk to the other side of the locker room and Samantha whispers into her ear.

“Now you need to go over there and deal with this woman. Whatever her name is.” Angelica could sense a frustration in her frost.

“Selena Frost.” Angelica says with a nod.

“Yes, her.” Samantha remarks. “You go deal with her.  Tell her she’s not welcome.”

Angelica sighs. “I’m sure she only wants to help.”

“Maybe so but it’s not her place to help.” Hodgson pokes her in the chest. “It’s your place.”

Those words hit Angelica hard, especially considering how conflicted she still is about this. Both her cousin Glory Braddock and girlfriend Aphrodite Noel seemed to suggest that leaving James alone and letting him handle his own issues is for the best. Yet Samantha here is encouraging her to be actively involved in this…

“I just don’t know…” Angelica’s voice trails off.

“Listen, you told me that you and James made a promise to one another. You VOWED to watch one another’s back.  Correct?”

Angelica sighs and nods her head. “Yes.”

“Did I raise a daughter who breaks her promises?”

“No…” Angelica shakes her head and walks off to deal with Selena.

We open up in a white room. Into the view steps, one of half of the SCW World Tag Team Champions, Angelica Jones. The Dragon walks towards the corner of the screen, her half of the SCW World Tag Team Championships draped over her right shoulder. She is wearing a white, sleeveless dress. Once she reaches the corner, she looks at her championship belt as she begins to speak.
The Jackass and Big Ass Connection…

Images of Tommy Valentine as well as Kandis appear onscreen, before cutting back to Angelica as she continues, keeping her eyes on her belt.

Cute name.  I guess I should go ahead and get the expected play on words out of the way as well and tell you that James and I are going to kick a lot of ass this week on Breakdown and that there’s a lot of ass ready to be kicked.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get down to serious business, shall we?

I am a student of the game; have been ever since I started.

Clips of Angelica’s various battles throughout the years, as well as her standing with various championships, including many of her World Championships in the middle of various wrestling rings appear onscreen, before we return to the view of only Angelica.

Nothing and no one ever goes unnoticed by me.  So when I became SCW World Tag Team Champion again with James Evans, you had better believe that my studious brain became focused on the ever growing tag team division in Supreme Championship Wrestling.

Bree and Raynes?  Found their weaknesses.  Stopped them.

Clips of Angelica’s various battles with Bree Lancaster and Andrew Raynes, from their first match, to their match in the steel cage appear across screen, before she is shown, holding her title alongside James Evans as he holds his belt, as Angelica’s voice can be overheard.

Truelove Twins?  Great chemistry but knew how to beat them.

Clips of the tag title match at Taking Hold of the Flame, pitting Redemption against the previously mentioned Truelove Twins are shown. Angelica is shown hitting various moves, as is James on the Twins, before a clip of the two of them standing tall in the middle of the ring. We then cut back to just Angelica, standing once again, in the white room, clutching her SCW World Tag Team title, as she continues to speak.

And yes, I have been studying Kandis and Tommy ever since they hooked up.  I think their choice of name is thoroughly stupid and ridiculous but hey, who am I to judge?  All I care about is the fact that yes, they are good.  They are quite good.  And I know they’ll bring the fight to Redemption.

Oh and I love a good fight.

Clips of Angelica fighting with the likes of Justin Davis, Selena Frost, Andrew Raynes fill the screen. Clips from her bloodied face from her time in the Elimination Chamber at Under Attack 2018 fill the screen next, before Angelica is shown standing in the white room. She lifts her hand and motions with her fingers, as she says.

So bring it, ladies.

Angelica’s hand switches from motioning for her opponents to “bring it”. She puts her hand out, signifying she is telling them to wait, or stop, as she continues to speak.

Just before you bring it, like me clue you in to something; because as a student of the game of course I always scout my competition thoroughly.  And I heard exactly what came out of Kandis’s trap…

It’s time for a new type of team, you say?  You claim that it’s time for a new type of relationship?  A new type of wrestler?

Angelica chuckles to herself as she shakes her head. She then looks full on at the camera, walking into the center of the room.

That’s funny, because let me ask you a question; where did you get that script?  Because it sounds like the same tired old line that everyone uses when they challenge for a championship. It’s time for a new day, a new era, blah blah blah…

...and you say that as if mines and James time is up.  As if we’re old and done for; as if we need to move on.  Therein lies the problem, ladies; we’re not ready to move on.  And we’re not going to give up our spot at the top of the tag team division without a fight.  Now yes, we have held these tag team titles for quite some time now.  And yes, all good things must eventually come to an end…

...but not now and not to the likes of you two.  Me and James, Redemption, we have been together as a team, dominating the tag team division, for quite some time, but that doesn’t mean our time is drawing to an end like you two clowns seem to imply.  In fact, our run at the top of the tag team division is just beginning.

So go ahead and make those grandiose plans of what you want to do after you win the belts on Breakdown.  Go ahead and plan the big victory celebration.  I like confidence in my enemies.  I like overconfident enemies even more and that’s what I see when I saw the pair of you on Breakdown.

I saw overconfidence.

In case you didn’t figure it out or weren’t listening to what I said earlier, I’ll say it again; EVERYONE has a weakness and James and I have managed to find the weakness in each and every one of our opponents and used that weakness to our advantage.  Your weakness is overconfidence.

See, I know that this will be a fight.  I know I have to be at the top of my game in order to win and so does James.  But when I look at you two and hear the words coming out of your mouths week in and week out I just hear two people who think that their shit doesn’t stink.

Angelica leans close, as to where her entire face fills the screen. She glares at the camera, her eyes filled to the brim with focus. She glares for a few moments, before finally stepping back as a smirk appears on her face, as she likes the feeling of the Dragon wanting to come out. She looks at her title then slowly lifts it high above her head, looking at it for a moment before returning her attention to the camera, as she speaks once more.

Good luck, ladies.  You’ll need it.

Angelica slowly lowers the title, draping it over her shoulder, before turning and walking away. As she exits the room, the view fades, as the word “Redemption” appears on screen before it all fades to black.
